A day long experiential social-emotional learning program that helps student learn how to develop respectful, empowering, and collaborative relationships with their fellow students.

The knowledge and skills gained throughout Unity Day helps foster a positive school climate where students cultivate empathy and compassion for each other.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING UNITY DAY?

Through a full day of activities, students will engage in team-building icebreakers, facilitated small group activities, and intentionally designed experiences that promote thoughtful reflection and growth on key social-emotional skills and competencies. These include self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making, and self-awareness.

UNITY DAY ACTIVITIES AND DISCUSSIONS TOUCH UPON THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:

  • Inclusion/exclusion

  • Individual decision making and choices

  • Personal accountability and responsibility as an active member of the school community

  • Personal social-emotional experiences that impact student development and behavior

  • School culture strengths and challenges

WHY PARTICIPATE IN UNITY DAY?

Research shows that when students feel more connected, schools experience a decrease in bullying, harassment, and exclusion. Students and staff have credited Unity Days as one of the major initiatives that have helped to bring positive change to their school climate.

After participating, students express feeling more connected to their school and confident in advocating for their personal and academic needs.
